Accreditation
Being accredited is a clear indicator of the commitment of GPs and practice staff to providing a high level of quality care for their patients.
The process of accreditation includes assessment against the criterion in the RACGP standards. The benefits of accreditation include:
- Displaying the highest levels of quality improvement and patient care
- Access to the Practice Incentive Programs (PIP) and the Service Incentive Payments (SIP)
The Northern Sydney General Practice Network supports practices who are about to undergo accreditation or re-accreditation and those that experience issues during the accreditation process. The Network provides onsite assistance, templates, training and liaison with accreditation bodies. Areas covered include privacy and confidentiality, triage, IT disaster recovery, sterilization and practice services.
By working closely with AGPAL and GPA Accreditation Plus, the Northern Sydney General Practice Network will act as your first point of contact if you require any information about accreditation and its benefits.
PIP and SIP
Under the PIP, practices are financially rewarded for attending to aspects that contribute to quality of care. These include the areas of diabetes, asthma, cervical screening, immunisation, eHealth, practice nursing, aged care, after-hours care, student teaching and quality prescribing.
PIP payments are mainly dependent on practice size, in terms of patients seen, rather than on the number of consultations performed.
PIP and SIP applications can be completed as soon as the practice is registered for accreditation.
