The goal of the Shared Antenatal Care program (SAC) is to provide a high and uniform standard of care to pregnant women who deliver at Royal North Shore Hospital (RNSH). SAC is provided collaboratively by the GP and hospital-based services to women who are assessed as suitable. The program aims to:  

• provide pregnant women with flexibility, choice and continuity of care
• Enhance the skills of GPs caring for women during pregnancy.

GP Requirements

To become an accredited SAC provider, an application form has to be completed and returned to Northern Sydney General Practice Network.  Appropriate orientation will then be organised for each applicant. To maintain accreditation, SAC GPs must attend relevant education events. In summary, the requirements are:

• Full unconditional NSW Medical Registration
• Complete SAC documentation (download below or request from the Network)
• Follow the NSCCAHS Protocol
• Attend Antenatal Clinic orientation if new to the area or new to SAC
• Attend three education events during the triennium and inform the Network of all events attended

SAC Administration

The Northern Sydney General Practice Network will:

• Fax, post or email SAC Protocol, Antenatal Clinic attendance information and details of accreditation requirements on request
• Maintain a SAC GP register
• Circulate appropriate education events in weekly faxes
• Maintain and regularly distribute GP's contact information to RNSH Antenatal Clinic
• Liaise with RNSH Antenatal Clinic regarding GP orientation to the Clinic
• Remind GPs of educational status during last year of triennium
